Korean vowels are one of the fundamental elements of the language and are structured differently from consonants. 
Korean vowels are classified as follows, and each vowel is explained in detail based on its pronunciation and form. 


1. Types of Korean Vowels

Single Vowels 

These are the basic vowels and serve as fundamental building blocks of Korean syllables. 
 
ㅏ (a)
ㅓ (eo)
ㅗ (o)
ㅜ (u)
ㅡ (eu)

Compound Vowels 

These are created by combining two or more basic vowels. 

ㅐ (ae)
ㅔ (e)
ㅚ (oe)
ㅟ (wi) 
ㅢ (ui)
ㅑ (ya)
ㅒ (yae)
ㅙ (wae)
ㅞ (we)


2. Vowel Forms

Single Vowels 

Vowels used independently within a character. Example: In "사과" (apple), 'ㅏ' is a single vowel. 
Compound Vowels 
Vowels that combine and are used within a character. Example: In "편지" (letter), 'ㅔ' is a compound vowel. 

3. Pronunciation Guide

Pronunciation
